Snowy Books!

Naturally, there's nothing better to do on a snowy day than to curl up by a roaring fire and read some good books. Any books are good, but books about snow are the nicest.

Here's what we've been reading:

The Story of Snow, by Mark Cassino

The Snowflake, by Kenneth Libbrecht

The Long Winter, by Laura Ingalls Wilder

What are your favorite snowy books?

  1. Those are great! When snowflakes fall on my windshield or mitten, I'm always so taken with their beauty.

  2. Oh, the cover of the Laura Ingalls Wilder novel brings back good memories. We had the whole collection in those paperbacks. How I loved reading them.

There's a great novel by Billy Coffey called "Snow Day" that I really enjoyed.

  3. I won Winter is For Snow by Robert Neubecker and I just adore it - especially the sparkly snowflakes all over the cover.

  4. I love the Libbrect book. He's got a great website too. Also love Snowflake Bentley :) When we lost power during an ice storm in WA, I huddled with the kiddos next to the fireplace and read Little House! After 3 days I was ready to drive over to Grandma's place ... but the power came on. Hallelujah!!!

  7. It's not exactly a "snowy" book, but my favorite "freezing cold winter weather" book is "Hans Brinker, or The Silver Skates" by Mary Mapes Dodge. Filled with images of honor and self-sacrifice, it has stuck with me throughout my life. I think the girls would enjoy it, too!

  8. Faith, my post yesterday has links to an online snowflake making site, along with links to info about Wilson Bentley, photographer of snowflakes, whose birthday was Feb. 9. "Snowflake Bentley" is a good snowy book!
