Neil Gaiman being awesome
If you can possibly squeeze it into your day (try listening to it while doing dishes, like I did), the twenty minutes this video takes may very well be some of the most valuable you could spend.
This is a commencement speech delivered by Neil Gaiman to the 2012 graduating class of the University of the Arts. It is amazing and funny and inspiring and anyone who is hoping or trying to live the artist's life should hear it.
Enjoy.
I love him and that's a great speech. I love the bit about how answering emails became his job and writing a hobby, so he stopped answering so many emails. That's how I feel like with all the social media. I get so wrapped up and lost in it that my writing time dwindles.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this. So many wonderful reminders ... and esp. the bit to enjoy the journey. I loved the part about failures and success ... and having the work itself, if nothing else.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to take some time to listen to this. Thanks, Faith.
ReplyDeleteThanks. (I just finished The Graveyard Book.)
ReplyDeleteFaith! I came across this speech and listened to it ... twice! I just finished The Graveyard Book and it left me weeping (some of which was due to the fact it's the last book Nancy INSISTED I read.)
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a TREASURE, as are you! Rosemary
