Don't just make art; be art.

I had a post several hundred words long all written up...and then I came across this quote which said everything I was trying to say, only better:

“Not all are called to be artists in the specific sense of the term. Yet...all men and women are entrusted with the task of crafting their own life: in a certain sense, they are to make of it a work of art, a masterpiece.”
John Paul II

  1. A beautiful sentiment. I know many people whom I would call their lives a masterful work of art. Like my grandparents! =)

  2. I think you say it quite well in your "about me" sidebar :) The world shall be saved by beauty, no?

  3. That is a nice quote. We do create our lives, and it's up to us, through our choices and actions, to make it a masterpiece. That painting is beautiful!

  4. The sad thing is, trying to create art can make one's life a bit of a train wreck--the pressure to produce can cause one to neglect one's environment, health, relationships and spiritual well being. I like this idea that making one's life a masterpiece is primary. A tall order, a task to fill a lifetime.

  5. Ah ... I'm about to go make spaghetti. It might even be the best spaghetti prepared in North Granby, CT on this dreary October evening! It will be the best at this address, at any rate. It will be, perhaps, art!

Faith, since I am sanguine I can only give little examples of art peeking out here and there, and when I was at your home in March, I was smitten by the twinkle lights behind the couch. Put a beautiful young mother, several tiny girls on said couch and throw in a good book and you have a domestic vignette that is ... art! Also, Mark's violin shop is art on top of art.

  8. This actually touches on exactly why I've chosen to self publish.
